Character represents your disposition and trademark. Your character demonstrates and predicts your conduct. Character is a reflection of your power, and control over your mind, body, and spirit. Having it represents high standards. Not having it represents the lack thereof.
Character is a holistic concept. Your character encompasses a wide range of mind, body and spiritual qualities. The concept of living with character is that it is the soil from which productive life performance grows.
To understand the holistic concept of character, you must utilize these 21 specific character traits. To encourage you to utilize these character traits, and therefore, to enhance your effectiveness, we have listed the 21 character traits that are the most important.
1. Integrity
Integrity is the behavior of doing the right thing, at the right time and place, doing it consistently, and doing it when no one is looking. It is fidelity to high moral standards and principles. Integrity is derived from the word integral, which means whole or not fractional. This means, integrity should encompass your entire being down to your core. This is where character begins. Integrity is a character trait that remains "first among equals."
2. Professionalism
Professionalism is a skill level that is not amateur or sophomoric. It is being an expert, a master and proficient in all aspects of your job. It is being worthy of the occupation that you represent. It is demonstrating specific skills that set you apart from others.
3. Poise
Poise is maintaining your equilibrium and demeanor in times of stress. It is discipline over your mind, body and spirit during time of adverse conditions or duress. Poise is behavior that is polished, and confident and is marked by a smoothness of action.
4. Positive attitude
Positive attitude is responding to life's challenges with an enthusiastic, "can-do", "high spirited" response.
